A Message From Jeff Jacob
Happy Thursday,

We hope everybody is well and dry. You’ll see that the scheduled “Shavuot Night of Learning with Rabbi and Artem Mirolevich” postponed from earlier this week, is rescheduled for Wednesday June 26 at 6pm. While we are still working on the details, this program will be in collaboration with Brotherhood and their monthly meeting.

Because of more predicted severe rains, the building will be closed tomorrow. Friday night services will be streamed on our Temple Beth El Facebook page only (CLICK HERE to access).

Saturday morning Torah Study and Service will occur on Zoom as usual.

A Message From Jeff Jacob

Happy Thursday!

This past weekend we had a beautiful bris in our Chapel for one of our preschool families’ newest sons, Slater. It was a moving and interactive experience for all of us there. And, of course, on Sunday, we commemorated our fallen service members at the Annual Memorial Day Service at our cemetery, Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens.

Below is a mock-up of what your plaque could look like, should you choose to support Temple Beth El by placing your family name on one, or both, of our new “Security Pergolas” which shelter the guards providing us protection. If you would be interested in discussing what this opportunity could look like, please call me at the office!

Shabbat Shalom,

Jeff

It would be irresponsible of WSG not to address what is happening on college campuses across the country. The violence and Anti-Semitic rhetoric is awful.

A Message From Jeff Jacob

Happy Thursday All,

This week, as part of ongoing upgrades to our security apparatus, we’ve installed steel doors on both entrances to our Preschool. This is one of a half-dozen upgrades to our infrastructure we’ll implement over the next year. A grant we’ve secured will fund these projects, though we can always use more assistance.

Lots to do on April 14th at our Annual Mitzvah Day…Give blood, clothe the needy, feed the hungry, help a senior with technology, construct a mini quilt and more! If you want to participate on that day, in either the Build-an-Animal Workshop, benefiting TBE AND Neve Michael Children’s Village in Israel OR the Community Yard SaleRSVP now by scrolling down to the Mitzvah Day ad and hitting the RSVP button.

Temple Board member, Ruth Gantman, MFA, Prof of Film and Television, Jersey City University and award winning filmmaker

Topic: ADL's Response to Anti-Semitism on College Campuses

ADL mounted their response to the onslaught of Anti-Semitism on college campuses since Oct 7th at a conference in New York City March 3-7, 2024. The increase in incidents totaled 900%. Ruth will share what she learned from this conference with you. Consider this a think tank…we’ll talk about our current situation.

The topics will include:

What’s happening on college campuses?

What we’re all experiencing now in our communities

  • Let’s have a give and take on this…a sharing.
  • Video Share – ways to improve what we are teaching about Jews and the current climate.

What the ADL is doing via the law, to obtain protection for our students.

This promises to be a very information packed and exciting session.

Ruth will share what she learned from this conference. Let's talk about our current situation. Join the conversation and be a part of the solution. You can always invite a friend - they don’t have to be a TBE member. See you on Zoom!

Keep in mind that we meet the first Monday of each month.

Happy last night…of the festival of lights!

This Friday we join together for our annual Klezmer Shabbat! You’re going to be tapping your feet and singin’ along to the prayers, I promise. Sunday, we have an opportunity to make sandwiches for those in need.

Dec. 24th in the evening, we are scheduled for the most holy of Jewish traditions…"Chinese Dinner & A Movie.” This is a paid, RSVP only event.  And if we don’t have enough interest by the 21st, we may have to cancel it. Click here to RSVP NOW

Jeff

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEK
                      October 13 2023 | 28 Tishrei 5784

Good evening,

As Shabbat draws near, it’s safe to say this week has felt quite long to many. Shabbat is an opportunity every week for each of us to pause in our own way, but this week...well, for sure we can use a break. During this difficult time, it’s important for us to be here for one another. We are here.

Jumping into the topic of security, on a lot of your minds right now, please watch the video below for some updates to our protocols. One of the changes, at least temporarily, is that our back gate (Wiley Street) is now closed during the day, except for vendors and deliveries. We suggest congregants enter through the east Rodman Street gate.

On a happier note, Cantor Manny has left the hospital. Check out his personal update below.

AND… It’s a busy weekend at TBE.  2ND SATURDAYS returns, this month at 6pm! Then on Sunday, meet Commissioner Beam Furr, at Brunch Bunch - 10am in the Chapel. Details below.

Warm regards from us to you,
Jeff

Dear friends,

I returned home yesterday after open heart surgery and eight days in the hospital.

What a week!

Your messages of love and support helped me in difficult moments.  I can’t thank you enough!

We have a very special congregation and we are always there for each other!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Love,
Cantor Manny

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEK
                      September 29 2023 | 14 Tishrei 5784

Hello friends,

As we move into a new year, we prepare to shake the Lulav & Etrog with Rabbi this Sunday! Last night Brotherhood did a wonderful job assembling our Sukkah, and Sisterhood decorated our Bimah for the harvest season beautifully!

Next Sunday the 8th, we’ll celebrate Simchat Torah with Rabbi, Cantor, and the whole crew. Let’s dance!

It’s not too late to donate to our annual appeal, please click here, and it’ll take you right to our giving form. It is a mitzvah to give and we need it now more than ever. Also, it’s not too late to forgive those around you for their trespasses towards you, and ask for forgiveness in return.

Blessings,
Jeff

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEK
                      September 22 2023 | 7 Tishrei 5784

Happy Thursday.

It was beautiful seeing so many of you for Rosh Hashanah weekend, including our 1st annual 2nd Day Sangria Soiree hosted at the Rubin home, by Rabbi, Wendi and the Rubins! We look forward to seeing many of you this weekend for Shabbat and, of course, Yom Kippur. Babysitting is available for Kol Nidre, Sunday night, as well as on Monday. Call the office.

Speaking of food. I mean Yom Kippur. BREAK THE FAST is Monday night and you must RSVP on our website. Deadline is tomorrow at noon.

A note – We appreciate that many of you have already sent in not just your dues, but your annual appeal. This support is crucial if our Temple is to survive in the long run, so thank you.  If you have a 401k or Retirement plan, your RMD (required minimum distribution) made as a donation to Temple Beth El of Hollywood, could potentially be beneficial to you for tax purposes. Please consult your accountant!

Shabbat Shalom,
Jeff
