Anne Frank Exhibition Tour

The Holocaust Documentation and Education Center is delighted to feature the Anne Frank Exhibition, as our next major exhibit, opening on November 10, 2024, and on view from November 11, 2024, until June 30, 2025.

Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank was born June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt Germany. Anne was 4 and a half years old when the family moved to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, to escape Nazi persecution. After the Nazis invaded, Anne and her family went into hiding in rooms behind a bookcase in the building where her father, Otto Frank worked. We know this today as the “Secret Annex”. It was here that Anne documented her life in hiding, writing in the diary she received on her 13th birthday. On August 4, 1944, Anne and her family were arrested by the Gestapo and transported to several concentration camps. On November 1, 1944, Anne and her sister Margot, were transferred from Auschwitz to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died a few months later.

Otto Frank, Anne’s father, was the only family member to survive. He returned to Amsterdam after World War II to find that Anne's diary had been saved by his employees and friends, Miep Gies and Bep Voskuijl. Moved by his daughter's repeated wishes to be an author, Otto Frank published her diary in 1947. It was translated from its original Dutch version and first published in English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl. Since then, it has been translated into over 70 languages. It is one of the world's best-known books, which has made Anne Frank, and her story deeply embedded in the collective memory of the Holocaust.

This Exhibition will showcase a model of the “Secret Annex” as well as a Limited Edition of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. Only 350 numbered copies were produced. The Holocaust Documentation & Education Center received a copy, graciously donated by Paul Hart, which is signed by both the ar st, Joseph Goldyne, and the book designer, Barry Mosner.
