FAMILY DAYS at TBE:
Each of our Religious School classes has participated in Family Days, a
morning filled with family fun and learning. Our 3rd-7th graders brought their
families to school on a Sunday morning to discover Israel in a hands-on way, as
they planted trees in Israel, wrote prayers for the Western Wall, and enjoyed a
humus and falafel brunch. Our kindergarten through second graders brought their
families to school to celebrate Chanukah through rediscovering the story of this
fun holiday, eating yummy Chanukah treats, playing the dreidel game, and so much
more.
Through this type of family programming, my hope is that our students,
their parents, grandparents, and siblings will enjoy coming to the temple, learn
some new Jewish facts while they are here, and feel their contribution to the
community of Temple Beth El. We will be celebrating together many more times in
the near future. Look forward to our PURIM CARNIVAL on Sunday, March 7th right
after Religious School (at 11:30).
EXTRA EXTRA…Read all about it!
The NEW TBE t-shirts have arrived!!! Lindsay
Lawrence (6th grader) and her sister, Ashley (3rd grader) designed the winning
t-shirt logo, and shirts are on sale in the office for only $6 (or 3 shirts for
$15). The design says “Temple Beth El…Helping The Community Around Us.” We have
sizes for everyone from youth smalls to adult extra large. Get yours today! All
profits will benefit the Religious School.
Passover
Candy For Sale
In preparation for Passover, all Religious School students will be
selling Passover candy during the month of January. Order forms will be
available during Friday night Shabbat services, or you can also visit the
Religious School on a Sunday morning or Wednesday evening to place your order.
This year, there are several new candies to choose from. Our sale will end on
January 30th. Passover begins on Monday, April 5th.
THANK YOU for supporting this
annual fundraiser.
Our HEFTY Youth Group:
Our 3rd-6th graders have been gathering once a month on Sunday
afternoons for Youth Group activities. Led by our Youth Group Advisor, Alyse
Thompson, these students took a field trip to the bowling alley in November, and
last month, they had a Chanukah party at the Temple.
Our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders are being introduced to HEFTY
(Hollywood East federation of Temple Youth), which is our very own TBE branch of
the national youth movement NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth).
Leo Ferreti, a ninth grader, attended the Fall Kallah (convention) in Weston a
few months ago, and several others will be gearing up for the spring kallah. It
is exciting watching these students’ enthusiasm as they embark upon a journey,
which will touch them in a very special way. I was a member of NFTY when I was
in high school, and it was because of that that I have chosen a career in Jewish
Education.
CAMP COLEMAN
After a presentation by Amy Smyler from Camp Coleman one Sunday
morning, several of our students have sent in their registration forms for this
wonderful Reform Movement summer camp, located in the beautiful mountains of
north Georgia. For information on Camp Coleman, please call me. I would LOVE to
tell you about this special camp where I spent four summers of my life. I also
have the current camp video that you are welcome to borrow.
Mitzvah Projects – ‘Helping The Community Around Us!’
We’ve been busy collecting and donating. For Halloween, our students
participated in the ‘Pump-CAN Project.’ As they trick or treated, they collected
canned goods which were donated to WECARE at the Soref JCC. Special thanks to
Susie Lewis for shlepping those for us. For Chanukah, our families ‘dedicated’
themselves to doing mitzvot as they brought in children’s toys, used ink
cartridges, children’s books, and toiletry items which were all donated to local
charities.
