Dear Temple Members,

As Co-Presidents, we are proud to announce that we have 111 paid members so far this year. It seems as though Sisterhood is the place to be! If you have not joined yet, please call the office and do so. We look forward to having all of you as members, to participate in fun, inspiring programming; raise money for meaningful projects; as well as being a part of a group of women united in Sisterhood.

We are addressing all temple members because there is something for everyone in our congregation. Young and not so young, men in some events, and women always. Sisterhood, while being mostly geared toward women, is inclusive. We raise money and we are always giving back to the TBE community at large in various ways.

It was an honor and a privilege to donate, on behalf of all of our Sisterhood members, a beautiful, blue torah cover to be used weekly, in memory of Rabbi Tuffs’ sister, Susan Knapp. It was presented to Rabbi Erev Rosh Hashanah, by Cantor Manny and Lynn Strauss, our Programming Vice President. Seeing all of our Sisterhood members standing during the presentation was humbling. Rabbi was touched and deeply grateful for the tribute in memory of his dear sister.

We had our first event of the season. It was our Complimentary High Tea on September 18th. We had over 70 reservations. Eileen Sanders and Lorraine Rhoades did a fantastic job decorating, and Gail Kadish provided a delicious and lovely array of petite tea sandwiches, an assortment of teas, and, of course, yummy clotted cream for our home-baked scones and fresh fruit!

We presented Hannah Lipton with Shabbat candlesticks for her wonderful leadership as our President for the past two years. We also presented a beautiful Hamsa to Sandy Marans, for all of her years of service and dedication as the chair of our Gift Shop. We have already been asked to have another tea so ladies, your wishes are our command! Please look for our next Membership “Chai Tea” on Sunday, April 22, 2012. It is guaranteed to be a sell-out!

Our next major event is our 2nd Annual Women of Valor Lavish Brunch on Sunday, November 13th, at 12 noon, honoring Eva Abramcyzk, Hannah Lipton, and Corinne Portner. These three women have all done some extraordinary things for the temple, the community, and their families. Please join us at this most special event, as we come together as one community in friendship. The food is sure to be wonderful. Invitations have been mailed, so please call the temple to reserve your place. Men are welcome and encouraged to join us!

On Sunday, December 11th, at 12 noon (lunch), we will present Dr. Poliacoff, a child psychologist, speaking to our parents about instilling positive self-esteem in our children and how to improve communication with our teens. This event will also help grandparents to improve their communication with their grandchildren. Please call the temple to reserve your spot, as we are already accepting reservations.

Other events planned include a Gospel Brunch at Lips; an evening of Wine, Cheese, and Belly Dancing; an Elegant Wine Tasting Event; Girls Night Out at Brio; a lecture on Growing Old Gracefully, with Dr. Barbara Simmonds; a Sushi and Sake Shabbat Dinner; and more!  PLEASE SEE OUR EVENTS CALENDAR! You Do Not Want To Miss Out!

Please visit our newly remodeled Gift Shop. There are beautiful gifts for every occasion and proceeds benefit the temple. So, please stop in and browse. Our staff will be happy to help you pick out that special gift you need, or treat yourself to a gift!

We are both honored to be serving as your Sisterhood Co-Presidents for the next two years.  We look forward to helping nourish and bond our TBE Jewish community … socially, and, as always, sisterly.

B’ Shalom,

Bonnie Goner
Jodi Most

P.S.  Please note that if you are in need of transportation to any event, please call the temple office and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Sisterhood is the leading energizing force of the women of Temple Beth El.  The group is active in fund raising and in service to the Temple and to the community.  When a need exists, Sisterhood says “yes.”

Sisterhood sponsors holiday dinners, receptions, First Friday Shabbat Dinners, monthly luncheons, religious and cultural events, and much more.  They raise funds to benefit Service to the Blind.  Sisterhood members participate in High Holy Day ushering and as Shabbat greeters.

Sisterhood arranges for flowers for the bima and often subsidizes the flowers when there is no donor.  Sisterhood provides weekly Shabbat challah for the Preschool, Hanukkah candles for the Preschool and Religious School, and presents gifts to the B’nai Mitzvah and confirmands.

Sisterhood actively runs the Temple Beth El Judaica Shop.  Sisterhood volunteers keep the library open on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings, and collate and mail the Temple Bulletin.

Sisterhood’s community service projects include crocheting shrugs and lap-robes for hospice patients, and collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids to be refitted for the needy.  Sisterhood operates its own bindery in which books are punched, bound, and brailled by in-house braillists.

Their monthly luncheons give us a chance to form bonds with each other.  They have entertaining as well as educational programs based on Judaism and more.

Sisterhood is a team effort composed of women of faith and action.  Your membership and participation is needed.  Temple Beth El Sisterhood is an affiliate of the Women of Reform Judaism.

Nov-Dec 2010
What is the purpose of TBE Sisterhood? I asked that question of a number of Sisterhood members. Some told me our purpose is fundraising; some said our purpose is learning about Judaism, and some said .... “That's a good question; I really don't know!” The answer is simple; it is those things plus!! We are there for each other in good times and bad, we listen, we give each other hugs and we are a family, a community. We hope you will accept our friendship. In turn we invite you to have fun, to work, and to learn alongside us as we keep our Sisterhood community vibrant and strong. We embrace our longtime Sisterhood members who have a wealth of experience and wisdom to share with us, and our new Sisterhood members who have energy, enthusiasm, and new ideas, and we take the time to reach out to Sisterhood members we have not seen in too many months – to let them know we have not forgotten them. We have programs for those who want crafts and light fun evenings; we have programs for those who want to learn and be challenged; we have programs that allow us to make money. With this money, we can give back to TBE by paying for needed repairs to our Temple and Religious School, and provide gifts and scholarships to our children. We Jews are a matriarchal society and we women are the hearts, blood, and souls of our families. If we have Sisterhood to turn to for solace, advice, a willing ear, and knowledge, we will be even better moms, professionals, wives, sisters, aunts, and grandmothers...we will be better people. As we leave the year 5770 and enter 5771, why not make a special resolution to give a special gift to yourself by joining our Sisterhood? TBE Sisterhood membership is open to all Temple members. Won't you please accept our friendship and, in turn, help us to be everything we can be?

And don't forget, if you wish to honor a loved one with a contribution to the Floral Fund or to contribute to the Service to the Blind Fund, call the Temple Office at 954-920-8225.
