We as Jews are lucky enough to celebrate two new years annually.  Many of us use these opportunities to resolve to do better, or, at least to try!  What will you do?  How can you better yourself, the world, or your place in the world?  In the immortal words of Dr. King, “…when you discover what you will be in your life, set out to do it as if God Almighty called you at this particular moment in history to do it.  Don't just set out to do a good job.  Set out to do such a good job that the living, the dead, or the unborn couldn't do it any better.

If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera.  Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry.  Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.’  If you can't be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley … but be the best little shrub on the side of the hill.  Be a bush if you can't be a tree.  If you can't be a highway, just be a trail.  If you can't be a sun, be a star.  For it isn't by size that you win or fail.  Be the best of whatever you are.”

There are plenty of different ways to enjoy yourself with Sisterhood in these two months.  In January, we will host a Women’s Morning of Israeli dancing, schmoozing and bagels.  And, it’s free!  Learn to dance, hang out with other women of the Temple Beth El congregation and have a nosh.  Our last Taste of Hollywood was lots of fun.  Join us at our next one, which will be at a new restaurant and just as yummy.  In February, we are lucky to have booked the delightful Wayne L. for our luncheon.  If you missed him last year, you missed a very versatile and amusing entertainer.

And don’t forget your dancing shoes on March 1st for our second annual Sock Hop and Ice Cream Social.  The Delusions will be playing again this year and you never know when you might spot Elvis.  If you missed last year’s Sock Hop, you don’t want to miss this year.

Everyone is talking about our renovated shop and all the new items we have.  Come see for yourself.  Merchandise, much of it from Israel, has been arriving weekly and all just in time for Rosh Hashanah.  Prices range from $1 key chains to beautiful $52 menorahs.

You will find just the right gifts, and remember that all purchases are tax-free and benefit Temple Beth El.  In addition, we plan to expand our hours.  We will be open on Tuesday mornings and when Religious School is in session, as well as before and after Shabbat services on Friday nights, as always.

May your New Year be bright with promise, filled with hope, and blessed with peace and joy!

Sisterhood Judaica Giftshop

Sisterhood’s little shop is filled with treasures!  We have an excellent selection of collectible hinged boxes, many with Judaica themes, and a good variety of jewelry, both costume and beautiful sterling silver.  Visit us if you are seeking a red string bendel or evil eye bracelet, a Star of David, Hamsa, Chai, or Mezuzah charm made in Israel.

If you had the pleasure of attending the spirited Rick Recht Shabbat service (or even if you missed it), we have several of his CD’s available!  Also, we are negotiating with our own much-admired pianist, Richie Silver, to carry his CD’s and hope to have them in stock soon.

All purchases, large or small, benefit Temple Beth El.  We offer service with a smile and free parking!  The shop is open Friday evenings and Tuesday mornings, or you can arrange for a private shopping session by phoning Sandy Miller at 954-456-7716.  We look forward to your visit
