TODAH RABAH!!

MANY THANKS to Dirk Hansen and Dora Kaufman for heading up the MITZVAH of mailing some of our “old” Jewish books to Jewish prisoners.  They mailed 348 pounds of books.  Thank you for shlepping and helping to share the gift of education with prisoners around the country!

SPARK at TBE!

The Kabbalists teach that when the world was created, the light was shattered into millions of SPARKS, and today, it is our job to gather those SPARKS together to make the world whole again, in our journey toward tikkun olam (repairing the world). 

“SPARK Heart Action” has brought together the teens and senior citizens of Temple Beth El in a seven-week curriculum, which focuses on communication, learning, and having fun together.  On Wednesday evenings, Judy Torrent facilitates this very special program, which was created in Baltimore through the Center for Jewish Service Learning.  SPARK is new to TBE this year, and has brought joy and heart-warming smiles to the seniors and teens who are involved.

Each Wednesday, our teens engage in a related text study after they spend an hour with their “senior” friends, and then they reflect by writing in a journal about their thoughts and feelings.

SPARK meets on Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 pm through January 23rd.  In the future, these newly formed intergenerational relationships will reunite at Shabbat celebrations, holiday festivals, and through personal communications.
