During Religious School, students in sixth and seventh grades focus on the preparations necessary for the life cycle event of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Students explore what it means to become a B’nai Mitzvah, as they develop the skills that are needed for their special day. Through prayer recitation, text study, and the writing of kavanot (prayer interpretations), students develop a sense of what this rite of passage means to them. Their Hebrew reading skills are refined, and students delve into the meanings of the prayers. Students have the opportunity to prepare to lead the entire Shabbat morning service. As their special day draws near, students
meet privately with Cantor Manny once a week to prepare their Torah and Haftarah
portions. |
